Inspiration comes from strange places.

Why am I starting a blog about my transformation from someone with apathetic religious views to someone leading a more kosher lifestyle?

Well, it started when I was watching Julie and Julia, the movie from the book(s), in which Julie Powell, a government worker, started a blog and her journey through Julia Child's book "Mastering the Art of French Cooking".

I don't know if anyone is going to be interested at all in this journey of mine.  But here it is.

This past May, I lost a dear friend quite suddenly.  At the same time, I was taking Hebrew lessons with my sister-in-law and learning about family purity and ritual bathing at the Mikvah, among other things.  In questioning the death of my friend, and learning about all that is entailed in going to Mikvah, I began to study, question and find that this was the life I wanted for myself and my family.  With my husband's support, we are slowly changing our kitchen over to a kosher kitchen, buying kosher meat and trying to limit the food budget based on the fact that much kosher food can be more expensive than 'regular', non-kosher food.

So, join me. Maybe we'll all learn something new.
